FANS FOLLOW RESURGENT REDS - ...European giants Liverpool top April search chart
10:00 5/05/2005
'Liverpool' was the most searched-for term in world football last month, according to the latest figures from soccer search engine Megasoccer.com.
Although their form in the Premiership has been patchy this season, the Reds have enjoyed an incredible run in the Champions League and are now just 90 minutes away from regaining their European crown, 21 years after their last success.
One of the most famous and decorated football clubs in the history of the game, Liverpool's popularity has remained high despite their relative lack of success in recent years, and fans from around the globe have been searching for information on the Reds as Rafael Benitez attempts to lead them to their fifth European Champions crown.
Liverpool reached the final with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Anfield on Tuesday night, but April's results were equally crucial as they beat Juventus 2-1 at home before holding them to a goalless draw in Turin to set up the all-English clash. Another resolute performance brought a 0-0 score line at Stamford Bridge a fortnight later, and the Reds finished the job in front of their adoring supporters with Luis Garcia's early goal.
Michael Flynn, C.E.O. of Fast Web Media - the company behind Megasoccer.com - said: "Liverpool's Champions League form has been fantastic, it will be a very tough final against Milan, but all at Fast Web Media wish them well in it. Megasoccer users have been searching for the best Liverpool information on the web and they know exactly where to go for the most accurate and relevant results."
